So, why don't they do that in the US where around 70% of packaged food products contain traces of GM crops because ingredients like corn, soya and canola oil are genetically modified. In Europe, only 5% food sold contains GM traces. Europe also has a 'zero tolerance' policy that bans any imported food from containing even traces of GM substances. Good for you Europe! Over 50 countries now require labeling of genetically modified foods.
Here in the US, the battle will continue. In the US Farm Bill which was voted on recently, Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) added an amendment which would give states the authority to require learl labels on foods containing GMOs. Unfortunately, it was voted down 73-26. How did your senator vote? Find out here - http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=112&session=2&vote=00161. My senators here in NY voted against it. NJ SenatorsLautenberg voted for it but Menendez was against. Shame on Schumer, Gillibrand and Menendez for voting against a right that humans should inherently have.
