1. Be impeccable with your word.
2. Don't take anything personally.
3. Don't make assumptions.
4. Do your best.
I had a conversation this morning with someone who did not know of the fifth agreement at all but in the course of a somewhat deep discussion about life and people and relationships, this person suggested that there should be another agreement where we be impeccable with our ears. Learn to listen impeccably to one another. I had forgotten what Ruiz's fifth agreement was and after my conversation this morning, I decided to look it up.
5. Be skeptical but learn to listen.
Just what my friend said. I must let them know for I did not appreciate it so much in the heat of the moment.
I have found myself being more impeccable with my words but not so much with my ears. Sound advice. And it should all be done with discretion. Something which many of us lack. Reread the agreements. Over and over. Until you don't even have to think it...you live it.
