This describes my choice of food lifestyle best. I won't say I'm always 100% plant based, but I strive to get as close to 100% as often as I can! Still, I'm feeling better than I've ever felt in my life. And I have learned about so many new and different foods and recipes. It's always a great adventure for me.
According to Melissa Costello of Karma Chow (http://karmachow.com/), plant based eating is coming more into the mainstream, and often another term for vegan-ism, but it doesn’t mean your vegan. It’s just that you are eating more foods that are less processed, so you are eating things that grow in the ground or on a tree — things that are more natural. It’s about eating fewer animal products and more natural foods like vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds and fruits.

"I'm an old-fashioned guy... I want to be an old man with a beer belly sitting on a porch, looking at a lake or something." Johnny Depp From today's LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-sedentary-disability-20140219,0,7209026.story. What will happen to good ole Johnny Depp when he's quite older and decides to just "sit" around...doing nothing. Well, researchers at Northwestern’s Feinberg Medical School, Rush University Medical Center, Harvard School of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are saying that we need to "Get Up!" Yes, get up off our tushes and get moving. "It’s not enough for people to get regular moderate exercise as they age. Researchers say it’s also important not to spend the rest your time sitting too much. In fact, for every hour of sedentary behavior, the odds were 46% greater that people older than 60 would have some disability in ordinary skills such as getting around the house and feeding themselves, according to the study published in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health. Being sedentary will lead to problems “independent of time spent in moderate or vigorous activity,” concluded the researchers." "That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons that history has to teach." ~ Aldous Huxley, Collected Essays When I read this quote, I was reminded when I was a young girl back in 1976 when I met my love. He introduced me to a book by Aldous Huxley called "Brave New World." I was a sophomore in high school and never even heard of it. So, I read it. I remember being intrigued but didn't quite understand it. But I knew it had something important to say. Interestingly enough, as a literature major, I was never required to read this book in college yet, my friend, had it as required reading at his Catholic high school in NYC. It should be required reading in high school. Have you read this? Any thoughts? Did you know Huxley died the same day John Kennedy was shot and killed? "Happiness. Simple as a glass of chocolate or tortuous as the heart. Bitter. Sweet. Alive." ~ Joanne Harris, Chocolat "The latest findings are that chocolate makes blood vessels more flexible, adding to the already mounting evidence that chocolate may be good for the heart. New and yet-to-be-published studies are showing that antioxidants in chocolate––dark chocolate and cocoa powder––may increase ‘good’ (HDL) cholesterol levels by as much as 10 percent. Furthermore, one of the fats in chocolate, stearic acid, can also boost HDL levels." So, go ahead, treat your sweetheart to some dark chocolate this Valentine's Day. Their bodies will love it. Technology can be used for wonderful, life-building deeds. A great change from the technology which destroys lives. Please watch.

It's a documentary by the director of Ace Ventura and other funny, silly movies but this one...well...it's quite different.
If you want to see a documentary which will make you want to be a better person, change your life, make a difference in the world around you (both close and far), then I strongly suggest you watch this. It's real easy to watch for free on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8KyNdE1fBY. "I AM is an utterly engaging and entertaining non-fiction film that poses two practical and provocative questions: what’s wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better? The filmmaker behind the inquiry is Tom Shadyac, one of Hollywood’s leading comedy practitioners and the creative force behind such blockbusters as “Ace Ventura,” “Liar Liar,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Bruce Almighty.” However, in I AM, Shadyac steps in front of the camera to recount what happened to him after a cycling accident left him incapacitated, possibly for good. Though he ultimately recovered, he emerged with a new sense of purpose, determined to share his own awakening to his prior life of excess and greed, and to investigate how he as an individual, and we as a race, could improve the way we live and walk in the world. Please...watch it and then share. A truly beautiful film. |
