The sandalwood oil can be a bit expensive so shop around. I've tried different brands and the one that gets the most compliments on the scent and that I like also is Mysore. I get a 5 ml bottle (very small but it lasts about 2 months...maybe a bit more...if I use it every day) from Amazon for $42 - http://www.amazon.com/Sandalwood-Mysore-Essential-Oil-Santalum/dp/B005H44E5G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373228814&sr=8-1&keywords=mysore+sandalwood+oil. At one drop each time, it lasts a long time. You may find cheaper brands that will work as well but not have the same scent as Mysore. If that doesn't concern you, then try it out. It's a more natural way to keep them away instead of spraying yourself with OFF! (which has so many chemicals).
I have had some friends in from Singapore for the past few days. We've gone swimming at a nearby river and lake and also gone to NYC Central Park. Everyone came back from both activities with lots of mosquito bites...except me (I had one - on my foot). I have found that I get fewer bites since I've been using sandalwood essential oil in a little bit of jojoba oil on my body. So, besides it being used for skin care, meditation and stress relief AND the fact that it's scent is HEAVENLY, it repels mosquitoes. They aren't too keen on the scent. So, pick up some decent grade sandalwood and a good carrier oil - I like jojoba because it doesn't leave my skin so oily. I pour about a teaspoon of the oil in my palm and add one or two drops of the sandalwood. I spread it on my arms and top part of my body first. Then, with the sandalwood scent still in my hands, I pour a little more oil into my palm and spread it on the rest of my body - especially my legs. You want to have it where your skin is exposed to those little annoyances flying around. You'll not only smell great but may just avoid the welts from the bites afterward. I've also read patchouli works well too. I'm trying that out tonight when we go swimming up at the lake.
