It has been FREEZING cold here in the northeast. Besides bundling up with extra layers, be sure you supply your body with what it needs: more energy to keep warm and healthy. With the holiday season over, winter can make you feel more tired. If you want to stay warm and energized, here are some foods which can help you out this winter:
- Raw cacao - It contains the natural stimulant theobromine which boosts your energy.
- Whole grains - The complex carbohydrates, fibre, B-vitamins and iron in whole grains such as brown rice or oats will keep you energized until your next meal.
- Water - Dehydration is one of the main causes of a lack of energy. Drink about three liters a day to stay energized.
- Lentils - Lentils and other legumes stabilize blood glucose levels and can help prevent a mid-afternoon crash.
- Oranges - Oranges are high in vitamin C, which helps turn fat to energy.
